Any World War II stories?

I've got 2 to share! (Details may not be exact bc I heard the stories quite some time ago)

1. Grandma told me that her house was taken over by Japanese soldiers, since her family had a plot of land planting sweet potatoes (?) and stuff. She said that the lower ranked soldiers were actually very nice. The soldiers often sneaked extra food for her family to eat, and even taught her how to ride on their horses. When higher ranking officers visit, the soldiers would warn my grandma's family beforehand, and tell them to hide under the beds too. She said that the higher ranking officers were the actual "bad" ones. The soldiers weren't all bad, and were just taking orders.

2. Grandma told me that her uncle was caught and imprisoned by the Japanese soldiers, but was released some time after. On the day he was released, as he was walking away, he turned back and said "thank you so much, thank you" in dialect. The soldiers there called him back. And they shot him. Grandma said the soldiers thought her uncle was scolding them/Japan, and hence had him killed....
