Anybody else here find that restaurant industry actually works well for them?

me!!!

I worked in corporate for 15 years and took a break a while ago. I was waiting tables and tending bar during that time and it was my best job, even though I was over thirty. I liked it because I had a list of things to do, a very concise and repeatable way to get through said list, and at the end of my shift, I never took work home. Ever. Contrast to my desk job where I never knew what to expect, had to deal with buerocracy and teamplayership, faking excitement to be stuck under fluorescent lights, etc.

Now, I'm looking to get back to hospitality. I like that my mask can have a very contained purpose like interacting with clients and customers (as opposed to needing it with friends). I like that all the social skills I learnt over the years can be put to making me more money. I also like that working in hospitality is much like PC than my desk job, so lightly taboo subjects and life topics come up more naturally than in environments that are buttoned up and professional.

I feel you, don't feel bad. I've been recently on the job hunt and I don't think I can ever go back to working under my degree again.
