Anybody else playing Black Ice?

I try to avoid offering generic suggestions to game designers, because I can imagine how annoying it is when you're developing a game you have a pretty clear idea about and everyone's complaining and going "you should change this and this and that and it needs flying hyenas with miniguns and why doesn't it have Minecraft features yet and maybe driving like in GTA, that should be pretty easy to add".

Since you ask, though, I'll tell you what I'd like to see in your game, with the full understanding that none of it is likely to be easy to add by a team of one working part-time and that these are mere suggestions with no expectations.

I'd love to have an overarching motivation, something deeper than just "hack higher level servers", but I understand going in that direction skirts awfully close to the concept of "plot", and I imagine a decent story takes an enormous amount of effort to implement in any way that isn't completely cringeworthy.

I'd also like to see something happening in the game between server hacks. The game world is enticing, but it is also sparse; it has servers to hack and pretty much nothing else. As it stands it feels less like a scifi version of the Internet and more like a data archive. It'd be nice to see some kind of infrastructure, NPCs, perhaps have some form of interaction with them (other than just shooting them for target practice, I mean).

Maybe something that would require you to get somewhere specific. A sort of quest system, possibly? As it stands the only reason to move at all is to seek servers of a specific level. The city can be huge, though, and most of it is never going to be seen.

On a simpler note, maybe large complexes of servers? Something like a big building that you walk into, and there are servers inside. When you hack all of them, the big building becomes hackable too and contains a high-level prize as motivation. Just to add variety to existing gameplay features.
