Anybody ever feel like it's too late to pick up an instrument?

It's not. I wanted to write film and video game scores, I was studying music composition for piano my first year and a half of college and drumming on the side. Drumming was my passion honestly but writing felt more realistic. That was my life plan. At 20 I developed carpal tunnel syndrome in my right hand, in addition to tendonitis in that wrist. I can't play drums anymore. I can't play any of the songs I dedicated so much of myself to writing. I went from practicing piano for four hours and drums for two hours a day (and choir practice) to absolutely nothing. Completely life changing.

I had messed around with guitar in the past but never took it too seriously. So I decided to move to that, which was incredibly frustrating because it was such a huge step back and it felt like playing catch up with my past self. But it's been fun and rewarding, somehow. It isn't the same but I really enjoy it. Still learning at 22.

16 is the perfect time to learn an instrument. Any age is, really. Don't worry about that. Don't set goals to become the best guitarist ever just to become frustrated because someone else started before you. Just have fun.
