Anyone have any tips for helping a stray i recently took in feel safe?

Thanks for the information. My cat was actually another stray that i took in over the summer. Before that i was feeding them both 2 to 3 times a day and they both really only hung around my house that i noticed. Sleeping under my van or in my bushes. She has been around for a few years and him i only noticed early last spring. He warmed up to me during feeding so i knew i could get him to a vet to check for microchip and shots etc if not. So they knew each other before i took her in is what i guess i was getting at. I just spent the day in the garage building her a carpeted privacy box so im hoping a lil home will put her at ease. I will check my local pet store for some of the things you mentioned.
