I was a Republican until about 10 years ago when I started to think "what if we stayed a free-enterprise capitalist country but just had single-payer healthcare like the rest of the western world?"

I ran the numbers on it including the savings to the broader economy (employer admin savings, bankruptcy reduction, etc) and it seemed pretty close to break-even. Especially when you compare GDP costs from the US for healthcare to other western countries.

Then I mentioned it to my friends and they all thought I'd become the love child of Stalin and Marx. That was when my eyes opened up and I realized they just aren't particularly intelligent humans.
