Is anyone else bothered a little by the fact that some classes require webcams?

The particular classes I’m in don’t have any discussion component, they are just your typical memorize the summarized textbook information lectures (this was even the case with the class before COVID). The class size is massive. It would also be tough to collaborate anyways since you aren’t anywhere near each other, and it takes that whole social aspect away. The only circumstance where there’s interaction in the class is if a student asks a question, but there’s plenty of alternative communication methods (typing the question in chat, using your microphone only, etc)

My main point is that webcams aren’t a necessity whereas lab manuals are. You need lab manuals to do the course. You need textbooks to do the course. You don’t need webcams to do the course. That’s why I consider them to be a waste of money.
