I make a pretty great living as a network and software engineer. I live in one of the richest towns in America (Calabasas California), where the median income is over 120k/year. The vast majority of my neighbors, friends, and vocal coworkers want Bernie Sanders to win.
I'll just tell my story/reasoning behind my support for him though:
I wanted to be a veterinarian or a doctor or a lawyer when I was younger.. I was too poor to afford college. I tried to work 2 jobs (cooking and washing dishes) and go to school at the same time but ended up dropping out at the end of the first semester. I couldn't afford the payments on what I had racked up already, I had to literally choose between paying my rent and eating one meal a day over continuing college.
Since I couldn't afford college, I tried to hustle as much as I could on the internet; it seemed safer than my venture of selling weed which lasted for 2 months. I taught myself HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL/CentOS Linux/a variety of other things via building random websites. I would work a double shift, then stay up several hours just teaching myself new things and looking at documentation and tutorials on random websites. I ended up discovering this amazing thing that people hate called spam email. I found it extremely easy to network servers together in a way that allowed me to send millions of emails per day; and grew to a peak where I sent 50-60+ million unique emails per day.
So an indirect consequence of someone like myself not being able to afford college was finding a career in something that makes the internet a shittier place. Lucky for 50-60 million people per day I used to annoy, I no longer send spam email. One of the companies I spammed offers through and made quite a load of money for went out of business and one of the partners in that company found me several months later and offered me a job.
I build porn sites now, which at least one some level helps some people?
How many people aren't as lucky as me though? And that's just a small part of why I support my tax dollars going toward higher education.
