Anyone else think the main characters act really mean and hypocritical when reviving the cryogenically frozen people in S1?

Riker claims that, “We no longer enslave animals for food purposes,” and yet he frequently discusses how he grew up hunting and fishing in Alaska.

First off, this quote is from "Lonely Among Us". Riker says it to an Antican. It's not from "The Neutral Zone". So it's from episode 6.

Is it possible that in the 24th century, they have holographic hunting or alternatively a 'humane' weapon that tags the animal with a laser or something as "shot" but doesn't actually fire a projectile?

Picard and Dr. Crusher criticize the singer for drug use when they frequently drink alcohol.

In all of TOS era, TNG era and today, people drink alcohol, which is legal, but look down on illegal drug use. While it may be hypocritical, it's not anything different than today.

The actual quote is "CRUSHER: There was marked deterioration of every system in his body. Probably from massive chemical abuse. Unbelievable. PICARD: That sounds like someone who hated life. Yet he had himself frozen presumably so he could go through it all again. "

We certainly see Picard have an occasional drink of actual alcohol (see: "Relics"), but that said, most of the time, we presume Crusher and Picard drink synthahol, not alcohol. Certainly not in sufficient quantities of either to do any permanent damage to their bodies.

They don't seem to criticize Clemonds for drug use. Crusher seems to be more shocked that he used it so much that it basically deteriorated every system in his body.
