Anyone else prefer the moral ambiguity in HL1?

I don't like the Vortigaunts in Half-Life 2.

As the G-Man said in Episode 2, their only encounter of humanity was a "crowbar coming down a steel corridor". So why would they negotiate peace with Eli, whilst Gordon had recently massacred a good portion of their population? I should also draw attention to Lambda Core, where we see a Vortigaunt feeding off a dead scientist.

Suddenly, the Vorts are humanity's best friend and Freeman is a hero because he saved them from slavery. Yes he did, but he also carried out damn near genocide.

But I agree that Half-Life was morally ambiguous. The Marines, whilst being total murdering dicks, did have a point - Whilst the sample was delivered by the G-Man and the Adminstrator pressured the Sector C team to push ahead, someone could have raised the alarm. Th scientists pushed the spectrometer beyond it's safe operating range and ignored anomalous readings (It's probably not a problem). The G-Man whispered in Eli's ear and he did nothing. The Sector C team are absolutely to blame here.

But then again, does anyone have a choice when the G-Man is involved?
