Anyone else solving family lies?

Lol I don’t know about lies but I had some shocking things come up. First, I grew up thinking we were the descendants of a prominent family that founded the town we lived in, had ties to the Underground Railroad, and held high positions in local politics as well as the military. Turns out my great-grandfather was adopted so none of that was technically true. I also found out that my grandmother’s side came from Kentucky and there was quite a bit of incest. At worst it was a pair of first cousins dating back to the 1800s. Then there several third cousins who had got married. My mothers grandparents were third cousins. When I told her this she was absolutely shocked and sad to hear that. Personally, I find it hilarious. It took her a few days and exposing that it was normal back then in Kentucky for that to happen before she got over it. I did find out one of her great-great grandfathers had been murdered over a land dispute. I also found that that same gg had a brother who was a Kentucky state representative. One of the funnies things I found was about my moms father. He was around my mom growing up but was an alcoholic and him and my grandmother were divorced. He never had a job. He was a bit of a vagabond as well, coming and going randomly. When we were little we asked what we were supposed to call him, since the relationship was a bit odd. Him being drunk replied, “Call me George. His name was not George, so it was an odd request. Doing family research I found out his grandfather was an alcoholic named George who rarely worked. So I finally figured out why he wanted it us to call him George
