Anyone ever tried deep-frying raw mushrooms?

I guess most of these people are too young to remember the 80s, well, and even the 90s. In the US, Battered deep-fried mushrooms with ranch or horseradish dipping sauce was hugely popular bar food, appetizer, and side in restaurants all over the country. While they aren't quite as popular any more, they certainly haven't disappeared from all corners of the country. They are terrific, but yes, they can be very active in the oil, and should be tended very carefully in a home kitchen. They will make a mess, but they're sooo good. Here's a decent home recipe.
