Anyone here actually FIRed at 45 or younger without blogging or vlogging or earning a regular income? Just living off their portfolio? I know there’s a pharmacist fellow who is doing it.

Right here. 38/m/single in the southern US. Went straight to work after undergrad and law school, worked a regular non-attorney job for about 14yrs before quitting earlier this summer. I moved to Thailand to teach English and computer skills to fomer prostitutes at a nonprofit. Recently spent a few weeks in Italy.

Since my milestone threads, I have gotten msgs from people wanting encouragement for repeating what I did, just working and investing simply in index funds and select bank and financial stocks to retire by 40. Unfortunately, thats not what happened. I was extraordinarily lucky to land a good paying job four years before the financial crisis and to have the cash to buy US large cap stocks and indices for literal pennies on the dollar. If the market just traded sideways since 2009 instead and I still saved and invested all this time, I would be living comfortably but I would still be working for the next 20 years of my life.
