Has anyone here actually quit the rat race despite a very high opportunity cost of doing so? How did it work out?

does quitting it by never getting into it count ?

I could quite easily get into that salary range , i work with colleagues who earn it, and it'd be a matter of sending a few emails to change my job role.

but also, i don't want to do it. It's not even that rat-racey in my sector. More just boring meetings most of the time, and boring writing documentation the rest. otherwise it's a 9-6 job.

But i'd hate it, and i'd rather stick to earning less in the job i enjoy.

some people probably think i'm crazy not to jump into it, and sure financially it'd make a huge difference to my life. But that's not the priority for me. I'd rather be happy and relaxed in my job.
