There are too many sides to this:

• Those 70-year-old politicians aren't as FinTech/Crypto ignorant as people think. I guaran-fucking-tee they were some of the earliest adopters of the tech. There's no doubt in my mind that the amoral bastards leveraged it to launder dark money into their pockets and campaigns. And it continues right now.
• Regulators have leeway when it comes to enforcement. They can easily say, "Oh, that's a nice new law, exactly how do you expect us to enforce it all the time?!?" That's when caps like say... transactions over $10k in a 3 month period need to be filed.
• Money laundering is serious. That's the root problem here. People should be offering up alternative solutions, blockchain-based solutions to the problem, not just brick walling everything and playing the role of the Three Monkeys, see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.
