I think my Brother also has this. When we were younger, we used to talk about getting away from our parents, and he’s complained many times about how they make him feel like crap. I escaped, and he’s become their protector and friend, excusing sexual, physical and emotional abuse. He’s also become an abuser himself, so we’ve had no contact in over a year. It’s extremely sad. When I talked with him prior to NC, it was as if his mind was short circuiting. I know he’s suffering, but I think he’s also become like them and I’m the first person he attacks, so I don’t feel like there’s anything I can do to help pull him out at this point without drowning in the process.
