Has anyone noticed if you go against the mainstream narrative people get startled?

If you go to college you have to learn to suck it up and follow the mainstream or you’ll be the odd one out. Outside of college, it’s the same I’ve realized. At work I have dull and menial conversations because 99% of people are brainwashed and you’ll see the look in their eyes if you dare try mentioning anything against the narrative. Even if I question something people will suddenly get defensive, even some really old friends will do the same. They never were so brainwashed before but college got to them I guess and 2020 was the year that sealed a lot of peoples brains from ever accepting non mainstream info. It labeled conspiracy theorists as weirdos that should be ostracized, when just 2 years ago people loved discussing conspiracies with me.

I’ve also accepted to just not talk about this stuff in public if I don’t want to burn bridges early on. I have a set amount of safe topics to talk about, like celebrities, sports, all the stuff created to dumb the masses down. If I start talking about covid or suggesting anything that goes against what the need is telling us, people suddenly go quiet and like you said their eyes glaze over until they move on to the next dumb topic
