I loved that game, it was my introduction to loot. Identifying the new sword you found and then watching as it got a cool new powers, a flavor text title, and a rarity color. Fishing could get you rare items and special fish that would transform your animal followers into all kinds of powerful monsters. I'd name my follower dog after my real dog and then I could transform them and adventure with them as wyvern or something. The gamble merchant where you could risk a ton of gold to get rare or completely useless stuff. Finding rare gems to insert into your gear. The gorgeous fantasy music. It looked awesome for the time and was really accessible, as a kid there was no way I would've been able to play Diablo or something, so for me it was my Diablo.
