Anyone who has been to jail in san diego, what is it like?

I did 14 hours in August 2015. Booked into downtown around 10AM and didn't get out until almost 1AM. They give you your medical examination first. Then transfer you to a holding cell to get booked in. When getting booked in they ask you whether or not you plan on getting bailed out or if you just want to go straight up to the jail. Booking might have been the worst part, solely due to the fact that I was handcuffed next to a non complying homeless man with one of the worst odors I've ever smelled. And I had the pleasure of being next to him for at least 10 minutes. After that I was transferred to another room with everyone from that first holding area that was planning on getting bailed out. While we waited, there were a couple different guys trying to get me to call their respective bail bond place so they could say they referred me and try and get a discount out of it. We got lunch after being in that second cell for about 10 minutes. Two pieces of bread, bologna, cheese, a juice box, and a cookie. Everything for the sandwich was packaged separately, and let me tell you, that was the worst food I've ever tasted. Every meal after the first all I ate was the cookie and juice box. After a while, they had us all shuffle into an elevator to go up 1? Or maybe 2 stories and placed us into another cell. This was the one where everybody's playing the waiting game to get bailed out. And the place where I estimate I spent about 10ish hours. A lot of characters, with all kinds of varying crimes. I ended up meeting a couple of guys my age that were busted for running a grow house. Probably the closest that I got to making "friends" while in there. Like others have mentioned, the water fountain and toilet are all in one. But I saved my juice boxes from my meals so I didn't have to stand over that horrendous smelling thing to drink water. One of the guys took the only toilet paper roll as a pillow, so if anyone needed it they had to deal with his bullshit. This was also the same guy that went through everyone's trash after our meals and ate all the half eaten and tossed away food. Towards the end of the night they piled even more people into the cell and there had to be at least 20 something of us. The smell in that cell was unbearable, and it only got worse as they added more people in. Someone asked the new guys what time it was and they said it was almost 11. I knew it was late and I was getting anxious that I wasn't going to get out before the weekend. But finally a deputy came in and read the list of those who were getting bailed out and I was one of them. He also said they were supposed to come around and tell us every hour, but he was the first. They had me follow the line on the floor to an office where they took my DNA samples and fingerprinted me. Then put me in another cell to wait so I could finally get out. There was a door connected that they buzzed us in through, and the woman at the window gave me all my paperwork and told me my court date. Then any possessions you had were handed back over to you in a bag. Overall, the worst experience of my life. I was messed up for a little bit after. I didn't even want to wear my watch for the first couple days after because of the handcuffs. 0/10 would not recommend.
