To an extent, Battlestar Galactica (some moderate spoilers ahead...but it's ending 6 years so, I'm assuming if you're going to watch it, you already did).
This show started out fucking amazing (was basically initially an allegory for the 9/11 attacks, and how society reacts to something like that, and what kind of society you want to rebuild after, moral/social issues like that).
Like Ron Moore (non-Mormon, with a history of pretty good Sci-Fi writing) was running/writing most of it, so I kinda ignored the fact the original was written by a super Mormon, Glen A. Larson.
There were little things here and there, like Quorum of the twelve (a group of representitives from the 12 planets) and a lost 13th colony (you know, the lost 13th tribe) and Kobol (this supposedly great planet, that holds all the answeres) they're looking for in the beginning is an anagram for Kolob.
I didn't really care, because for a long time, it was just words that carried over from the original 1970s show, no real mormon religious shit behind it.
But then...by third, and really fourth season. Sweet Santa jesus on a pancake.
Like the cylons and their "one true god" and one of them even refers to them as their "heavenly father" at one point, i was like "oh god...oh god no." There's one point where a character gets "resurrected" and gives this entire diatribe that is basically a barely thinly vieled Mormon creation myth, and the "war in heaven."
Then they started in with some "all of this has happened before and it will all happen again" eternal progression thing, that some major plot points had happened with societies before hand from the beginning of time.
I was pretty much able to predict the shitty ending just from knowing Mormon theology and seeing they were starting to swerve heavily that direction (so much for Glen Larson, just being a "consultant.")
Like you basically got to the end and they were all "God did it!" with some angels thrown in, talking shit on the "decadency" of civilizations, that were basically destroyed as a result.
I was fucking pissed. i was like wtf, i spent like five years invested in this shit, and Mormonism came up and slapped you in the face.
