Has anything ever happened to you to make you feel like you were actually in a horror movie?

I traveled home to Texas for the holidays two years ago. Because I live in LA now, I had been missing the Texas weather for a while, particularly thunderstorms. I had also committed to developing my horror feature so I had been keeping an eye out for anything creepy to incorporate.

One night, about 2-3 AM, I noticed a thunderstorm was in the distance. The kind of storm that is many, many, miles away and the sky is dark, but when the lightning flashes it illuminates the horizon. No thunder, just rapid flashes of lighting and the refreshing buffets of humid, stormy, wind. My favorite kind. I stepped out into the back yard, and looked out over the plains beyond and enjoyed the weather for a while. The flashing was beautiful but then I noticed something in my peripherals.

Glancing back towards the earth, past the fence, I saw a pair of eyes staring back at me. I was frozen for a moment, because creepy eyes are a particular trigger for me due to an incident with a cat when I was growing up. But then I remembered that time, and figured it was just a cat. Another flash of lightning confirmed it. Stupid cat.

I breathed a sigh of relief but then heard an ominous creaking noise from behind me. I slowly turned to face the source of the noise. The back door of the house had creaked wide open, the pitch blackness inside was a startling contrast to the surprising brightness of the stormy night. As I was looking in the darkness for someone who could have opened it, I felt the wind again and simply figured that the wind had blown it open. After than, I figured that was enough creepiness for one night, went back inside(still searching for a person), and went to sleep envisioning how what I just experience would be the perfect starting point for a horror character's demise.

Not a real riveting story but I guess that is why I write.
