AP Gov last FRQ

I wrote my entire essay explaining how through a stronger federal government, order could be maintained, grants-in-aid could be easily distributed, and that state governments still have the freedom to pass legislation that reflects the views of their citizens. I talked about how the Articles of Confederation failed miserably, forced the United States to have a stronger gov, (distribution of laws, taxing states, national currency) FDR’s New Deal built a stronger national government and introduced the idea of cooperative federalism. From this strengthened power, formula grants could be distributed to aid federal programs with and help lower unemployment and increase economic growth. And for my rebuttal I talked about how critics believe that through a strengthened federal government, state governments are useless. Yet, state governments can still pass legislation that reflects the views of their citizens’ and not necessarily the view of the federal government themselves. Using the example of California and Colorado’s legalization of recreational marijuana, states of the freedom to pass legislation they see fit by the beliefs of the constituents. Ultimately, a stronger national government benefits the policy making system.
