Apartment managers towed my truck, only because it was sitting in the same spot for too long. How can I make them pay for the towing fees?

My truck got towed yesterday from my apartment complex. It was in a normal spot, just chilling for a couple of months. I've been driving my car exclusively. They told me they put a tag on it, which I did not see because the lot I parked it in is up the hill from my apartment.

They left a voicemail asking if it belonged to me and let me know it might be towed. I tried to call them back but it kept going straight to their voice mail. In retrospect I should have left a message. Anyway, with this information, we can deduce that they were 100% knowledgable that the truck belonged to me because they had an officer read the plates. And they were 100% knowledgable that I am a resident of this community. So with that information, why tow my vehicle at all? It is not parked illegally by any means.

I got off work today and I went inside the leasing office and talked to the property managers and tried to remain calm while they gave me the tow company's phone number. The tow company said it was $225, but unless I got there within 10 min, and with someone to drive my car back, it was too late in the day to retreive my vehicle. I would have to wait until monday which will cost an additional $75. So I am going to have to pay the tow company $300 just to get it back out.

This is absolutely ridiculous when they knew that the vehicle belonged to me with 100% certainty and that I am a resident of this community. I don't remember signing any contract that said it was ok for them to tow my vehicle if I don't move it after a certain amount of time.

I need to know if there is there any legal recourse I have against them. Maybe small claims? Would I win?
