I lived across the street park from Howe Park in a gated apartment complex in the early 2000s, and our apartment was robbed twice. It was devastating. I was just a child and had my birthday card with money stolen. I also went to Howe Elementary School as a child, and the whole school got free lunch because so many kids were on welfare and qualified. My family didn't need me to have a free lunch, but i got it anyway because of the economic demographic of the school. There is nothing wrong with families being on welfare, but with poverty comes more life stressers for the kids and families. Lots of kids had parents in and out of prison, foster care system, or gang related activity. If you have the ability to live elsewhere, do so.
