Apparently Americans don't let their cats outside!?

I'm a Brit currently residing in Asia and my three cats live in the house and my two dogs outside. Something that I could never have imagined back home. Lost 2 cats before I figured out that the combination of abundant stray dogs and poorly trained/untrained drivers (not racism, it's just absurdly commonplace for drivers here to pay £10 in bribes to get their license rather than take lessons and a test), to figure out that cats don't live long on the streets here.

The doberman and rottweiler stay outside to deter/maul would be intruders, took three home intrusions to figure that one out.

I never knowingly saw a single stray dog in the UK, maybe they're more common in the US?
