Apparently the pill and condoms are equally risky for users

I've had a very hard time with birth control in the past 3 years... I was on the pill for years until it turned out that migrain with aura = higher risk of strokes with the pill. Tried the progesterone pill but ended up having massive side effects from it, including needing surgery for a large ovarian cyst. Not 100% sure this was from the progesterone pill but the timings coincide. My partner and I really struggle with condoms, it's not just him not wanting to use one, sex isn't simple for me and condoms make it even more uncomfortable, doubled with the fact that it lasts longer because he struggles to come it's just not a pleasant experience! The calendar method combined with pulling out failed us... there weren't many options left...

I was terrified of the copper IUD (especially of the insertion) but thankfully I was able to get it placed during surgery so I was under general anaesthetics. Mentally, I needed it in and then I would deal with it... my periods were a bit heavier but other than that, it was such a relief to not have to worry about birth control anymore. It did my mental wellbeing a lot of good. Taking it out was surprisingly simple and I got pregnant immediately afterwards (we were trying).

I'm not saying it's what's right for you! But just wanted to share my journey. I wish you all the luck! X
