The appeal of Waterfront Dining?

I totally agree with you. WD doesn't add anything or really sound all that special for me. I think it's lazy production that honestly shouldn't be as praised as it is. I mean, I get the idea of the whole "knockoff vibe" of vaporwave, and the satirical take on music and all that. I get the idea of changing someone's music, and even making it heavily sample based. Albums like Ecco Jams and FS were able to get away with that in 2011, and they were good because there was nothing else like it at the time. Is it a nice sound? Sure, but there are artists who do that type of sound better with better mixing and unique flair. Same problem I have with supporting PZA's older work - I like the sound, but just taking other people's songs and slowing them down isn't making music. It's just changing it slightly, and to me, that doesn't warrant the support of an artist.

It wouldn't really bother me, but I see so many really talented artists who take samples and do very unique things with them. Who clearly spend a lot of time on their production, and who take a sound or sample and use it as a collage of a larger piece, not a crutch to rely on. Artists like George Clanton, Telepath, ESPIRIT, HKE, Blank Banshee, Saint Pepsi, Vaperror - these are vaporwave artists who can take a sample and really play with it and do something special. They make their sound unique and push the boundaries of what vaporwave can be. And sure, not every artist or album has to be fucking revolutionary or boundary pushing. I just find it difficult to really support the specific type of low effort vaporwave, even if I like the sound.
