Apple Debuts New USB-C Magnetic Apple Watch Charger

Yeah, I think the whole portless idea is just too far. You can’t use the phone when it’s wirelessly charging. Most cars don’t even use wireless technology to connect to phones for CarPlay support. Then there’s a whole host of issues when it comes to troubleshooting and repairing the phone without an access port. Portless means the phone would have to constantly keep some wireless chip/radio running, so what happens when the battery dies?

It’s a neat futuristic concept but it’s totally impractical in a way that removing the headphone jack wasn’t. They need to move to USB-C as soon as possible, their product line is already stupidly fragmented. If they can replace every port on the MacBook with USB-C they can do it on iPhones.
