Applying to optometry schools this summer, would appreciate some input

First, I'm not an optometry student / optometrist... just another (pre-optometry) student in a similar position to you. So, this is really just my impression/thoughts even though I don't really "know" first hand.

My GPA is pretty low, too, ~2.9-3.0, but with a strong upward trend (last ~45 hours @ ~3.9). From what I've read, doing well on the OAT will help offset the low GPA. It sounds like the rest of your application will be great with all the work experience/certifications/research/hours logged. I'm sure if you apply early in the cycle you'll land some interviews. Of course, this is all just speculation on my part.

If you haven't already, check out the SDN (studentdoctor.net) forums for advice/resources to study on the OAT. I'm studying for the OAT right now, and I feel very confident in the resources I've been able to put together for a self-studying schedule for the OAT.

I got everything from reading DAT discussions on SDN, which are much more active than the OAT discussions -- the DAT is for dental students, but everything on the test is the same (made by the same people, same exact content, and I think same question bank). The only difference is the DAT has a PAT (perceptual ability test) while the OAT has a physics section.

I'd list off what I'm using, but I think looking through this thread will help you more than I could (after all, I haven't even taken the OAT yet). It's also probably better to just sift through everything and take from it what you think will work for you. It's a whole compilation of people who scored very well on the DAT and their breakdowns on study methods / materials / actual test experience.

I apologize for just rambling if you're aware of all this already, and I realize this wasn't really in response to any specific question you asked. Just wanted to chime in since I'm in a similar position.
