Yeah of course I’d mention it to the person I’m asking the questions to, I wouldn’t mention it to the employer if they weren’t comfortable but from what it looks like it’s a very close team and saying that I’ve had a chat with someone that was part of the team prior could be beneficial :)

Not trying to come off as creepy I promise, but I just wanted to show that I’m actively researching the role and how I can be best prepared to take on the role - I mean it’s public information on a social media site made for networking to grow your career - I don’t understand how it’d be creepy to be contacting someone based on their previous experience and positions on a website that is made for that exact reason. Sure if I was harassing them for a reference or trying to pry info from them to benefit me
