April 2021 U.S. Government and Politics megathread

I've been to the blue mosque in Istanbul. It's probably the most western mosque they have. Tons of tourists all the time, the ruler of Istanbul give religious freedom and turks definitely claim to be very woke.

Back to the blue mosque; it's super hugs and beautiful. Full of exquisite artworks. But I'm a woman so I had to change clothes, and then was only allowed just inside the door to the designated women's area was by the smelly shoe racks. So while I was sitting there feeling like a dirty shoe, my boyfriend at the time got a lovely three star tour and while he enjoyed all the art I talked him into takilg me to see.

It was dehumanising, embarrassing and for a woman; wholeheartedly not worth it at all. My boyfriend didn't have a good time either because he isn't even into art and only went there to take me.

So I dunno. It's not a mentally safe space for women it's like being bullied and everyone just says it's Gods will. Creeped me out all ways until Sunday. I was more open to Muslim culture before that because everyone insist it's not that bad - but that mosque did me in good when I just tried to give them my appreciation and money. Sure I know Muslims at home but I will not set a foot in another mosque before Muslims equalize these tender norms. Not. Ok.
