why is the architecture major not as hyped up as CS or engineering is? It’s as difficult as the other two…

Architecture careers typically don’t pay as well as CS or engineering. While architects do play an important role in making sure buildings are safe for occupants to exit in case of fire, make sure they’re put together in a way that they will stay water tight and last for decades to come, and are enjoyable environments for the occupants, there is a huge deficit in the public’s understanding of what an architect does and the value they bring to projects.

CS and engineering have incredible demand in the global economy, and there’s a public understanding of and respect for the value each profession brings; therefore, these jobs pay more, and you get more people encouraging young students to go into these careers because it’s a better payoff for the work involved in getting a degree (financially, at least).

I got my bachelor’s degree in architecture, and I’ve been working in the field for 8 years. I don’t regret it, but a CS / engineering career would make things such as hobbies, travel, and owning a home much easier. I’m not sure my mind was built for those careers though.
