There is no timed bans on SoE so all bans are permanent until lifted. Admins have handled most of the stuff this way since the first boom: Ban instant and let the player deal with it. They do this because there has been a crazy amount of players who just don't follow rules and take up space that people who want to Rp can use its just easier to deal with afterwards.

Now this admin who did this could just have put them in jail permanently, since that's how they used to handle it (they put you in jail for failrp for 999999 minutes and this is considered a soft ban). They might have gotten orders to not do that because of the rise of players.

100% agree this is a bad way to solve things and especially on the Whitelist server!
