Are american highschools like in the movies?

Honestly no. Everyone is tired, freshman to staff. Everything is so under funded that you have to pay $35 for each “art” or “lab science” class + $45 for a parking spot. My school’s overcrowded to the point kids just sit on the floor in during lunch and some of our classes are held in “portables” what the hell a portable looks like. Half the bathrooms are locked because too many kids are vaping in the bathroom. Some kid almost hit me speeding in the parking lot but I wasn’t even mad because 5 lates = missing one full day, and after missing 10 days you lose credit for the class. The foods not that bad tho and we don’t have fights, because of strict 9 day suspension policy. The foods not to bad tho and it’s hot wear I live so the dress code is pretty lax.

But also school shootings. Everyone is constantly thinking about it. Each one of your class will organically bring up what “the game play” is. Some have a storage closet, others play to turn over and line the desk along the walls, others say break the windows and sprint across the street, one teacher even has a bat that gets assigned to the largest guy in class. Every once in a while your friend will look up from working and say “wow, if there were a school shooter we’d be screwed.” Or if there is a strange noice down the hall the entire class will go silent. Every once in a while I’ll look at the window and the thought “a shooting could start at any moment, you could die at any moment” but I can’t do anything. You can’t, you have to bottle up your panic and keep doing your assignment. But yeah that’s my experience.
