You are American, not Chinese-american or African-american... (or insert-american)

I hate how legal forms always ask what ethnicity you are, if its not medical it's irrelevant. But its a huge deal; school forms, driver's licenses, the Census and any other documents all "need to know" and it makes me uncomfortable. It would be easy for the government to pick on a group of people when they so neatly organised us into groups.

I think asking people what ethnicity they are on forms have conditioned people at a young age to care about these things. I used to think it was a normal question that people like to ask when they first meet someone but half the time its a pissing contest and it makes me aware that you consider us different because of how I look.
