What I've seen happen when Asians immigrate to the West is they tend to take a defensive stance on their culture because they feel very vulnerable in a foreign culture. And so to they actually end up (trying to be) more conservative than ppl back home. Basically they stereotype themselves against (negative) stereotypes of westerners, trying to live up to a rigid ideal with impossible values (often self destructive). But it's all reactionary to the situation.

My family came over in the 50s - 60s, they said all the family values stuff, and then did the opposite. Had casual relationships, affairs, kids out of wedlock, divorce, broken families, the whole nine yards. Welcome to reality, welcome to humanity.
