funnier still, police do not owe a specific duty to provide police services to citizens. In one of the worst decision in the history of US courts, it was established that police only has duty to the concept of "public at large", not to any actual person or persons. The ruling does not seem to actually define the difference between "public at large" and "individual" nor does it seem to define when a group of individuals stops being "a group of individuals" and becomes "public at large".

In effect, police are only there to protect private property - that is, property that produces capital. The police, as currently envisioned, is literally a tool of oppression by and in service of capital-holding bourgeois class.
