Why are Christians often Conservative when Jesus had very social views (feed the poor, care for the sick, hording wealth is a sin) ?

I sit pretty solidly in the middle of the political spectrum (which on Reddit means I'm conservative)

Well, no, it just means your conservative. The present Overton window (assuming you’re American) has been so effectively shifted to the right that there are a large bulk of democrats who don’t even realize they’re conservative. You can say you’re in “the middle” of the “political spectrum”, but that doesn’t particularly mean anything. It just means you’re in the middle of what the acceptable range of discourse is in your country. Anyone who’s “in the middle” in the U.S. is, quite simply & uncontroversially, a conservative.

Just say you’re a conservative. It isn’t a dirty word.
