Why are you feeling guilty and what are you going to do about it? [Serious]

That I feel good that a friend feels inferior to me...because I often feel inferior to him. I've got a number of injuries I'm healing through, so though I practice harder I'm worse than him at the sport we practice(we're in a university team). So I'm jealous of him. At the same time, I have my life figured out better than him and I know he resents me over it sometimes. Especially when I try to just pay something for him so he doesn't have to stress over it, which for the longest time I didn't know actually really stressed him out because of stuff.

We both care about each other, but we both have this thing where we kind of like that we cause the other to be a little jealous. It's odd.

What I've been doing is just being open about it. The jealous monster inside of me has been rapidly dying since one night when we were standing outside a hotel after a tournament talking he opened up about being down about things and I said "You know man, I'm actually really jealous of how great you are at this." And we've been working through it. Just letting the other know about what we feel a little and trying to be supportive. We've both been a lot better about it and plan to keep doing it until we are both 100%.

Also I'm aware we have more trouble keeping our relationship with each other fine than we do with our girlfriends, which is hilarious if you ask me.

TL;DR Friend and I are jealous of each other, we've been working through it by doing the opposite of the "guys don't talk to each other" social thing we're supposed to do.
