You take 100 people and split them into 5 groups of 20. You then place each of the groups onto an island in the middle of the ocean. Each island is approximately 5 miles away from each other.
Upon arriving on the island, the team must first pool their resources to build a temporary shelter. They are given 48 hours to complete this before their first real task begins. To help with this, each team is given a knife, hammer, 5 meters of rope, a metal bucket and a large metal frying pan.
Once the first week is over, the teams are asked, based on their previous week's work, to elect a 'president' of the island. This person will be responsible for:
Week 2 The task for this week is to start building the permanent base. This can be either a tree house, bunker or standard structure and must consist of at least two bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room. The building must have a roof and be suitable for living in when it rains heavily.
Week 2 Side project The president of each island must select two people from their team to scout the island for supplies. Each island is pre-poulated with a vegetable patch (with many vegetables already grown) and a pre-filled rainwater collection tank with a filter built in, however a secret care package has been hidden on each island, consisting of:
These items are not hidden together, and are instead spread out around the island. The team are not told what items are available, but are told how many there are.
Week 3 Having found some or all of the items, the team may now do with these as they wish to help better their time on the island. Some choose to use the solar cell to create a battery bank to allow them to have lighting in the camp. Others choose to use the parts from the broken computer along with the ipod to create a stereo.
The task this week is to start building their new home. The team is given 1 week to complete this task. Failure to do so will result in no care package being provided for the next week.
To kick the week off, the team's first care package is delivered. As the teams have already had their 'starter' package scattered around the island, this package consists primarily of food. Items in the package include:
Week 3 side project The president of the team is asked to choose how they wish to proceed with their island: - Do they want to focus on surviving or exploring?
The president is not instructed as to why they must answer this question, but are informed that it'll effect their team in a big way.
Week 4 The team should now have the team building built (called 'HQ'). Now the real challenges begin. The teams are informed that their food care packages will stop by week 8 and must use the island's own food resources. They are given freedom to choose how they will generate enough food for all 20 people on the island. This can include building a fishing boat, searching for fruit on trees, etc
Week 4 side project The water collection tank on the island is small, and only just about enough for drinking water. Using the oil barrel and hose pipe, the team must build a second water collection tank and build a basic shower. The oil barrel only has a small opening on the top, so it'll need to have some sort of funnel made for it. It'll also need to be elevated above the team HQ.
Week 5 The president of the island is collected on a boat, and taken to a large luxury yacht. There they meet the other island presidents for the first time.
They are told that the public has voted three people from each island off, and that they must pick one of those three to leave.
