Are Hermits still a thing and can you become one?

About five years ago my wife and I were attending a parish. Yeah we noticed things. People chatting until a minute before mass started. People wearing shirts and t-shirts. Some dresses reverently but it seemed 20 percent seemed like they were dressed for the beach. Anyway it finally came to a head when one weekend a bulletin came out and it had a quote from a Protedtant minister in big fonts on the front of it. That’s when we decided to go to a different parish a little bit farther. To the priests credit he was like 75 years old and we heard him warn people about talking before mass so it wasn’t his fault.

So yes If you live in an area with several Catholic Churches and you feel out place consider another parish.
