Are humans whose gender aren't male or female really common in real life or are they more common online?

Most people won't come out to random strangers unless you are in a specific LGBT safe space, and even then, a lot of LGBT people see NB people as 'fake' as well.

Everyone online who is NB probably is really NB, it's just that they aren't out yet.

Also, it isn't a noticable thing. If you have a beard and a dress, or wear only androgynous clothes... That doesn't set off alarm bells that they're NB, does it? Maybe they just like wearing dresses or androgynous clothes.

A lot of NB people might also be okay with male or female pronouns or both. Maybe they're genderfluid or bigender, or they're agender and just prefer one pronoun over the other. So even if they are out, you won't be able to tell from that because you don't stop to think whether someone who goes by male pronounds identifies is just male, because that's what we generally accepted.
