Why are JBP fans mostly STEM-obsessed males?

I'm in IT, but I know way more about literature and philosophy than I do about IT. I really don't give a shit about the field, to be honest, but it was a steady paycheck. After having been out of college for a few years and wanting to go back to study for an MFA and maybe become a teacher of some sort (it sounds more likely that I would have taught high school than college), my parents all but threatened to disown me if I didn't earn a degree in something "practical."

As far as the tech industry goes, you can't get much more technocratic that "Technology." Working on my tech degree, I had to take accounting courses and finance courses. Nothing that I learned from my tech degree could not be learned by literally anyone in my accounting classes or finance classes. If you want to see how biased the tech industry is, all you need to do is look at the statistics for accountants. Something like 60% of CPAs are women. Every single one of those CPAs would have been completely capable of taking programming courses beyond where I got when working for my degree.

Since the tech industry relies heavily on certifications, new people view them as a ranking mechanism. In reality, most low-level IT jobs are about as involved as being a low level mechanic. It's sort of weird that if someone is a mechanic, that person is regarded as stupid, dirty, etc. But if someone works at a help desk, STEM lords regard the person as at the entry of super spy mega cool haxorz dude. It's practically the same skill set.

The whole industry has been filtered through this propagandistic lens of all IT = the matrix. It's idiotic. I don't know if anyone realizes that spending as much time as I do on reddit serves the same social function that 30 years ago would have been a man sitting in a room with a CB radio.

In my experience, young people in IT are emotionally retarded. You said that much more compassionately by talking about how people are not given the opportunity to read and communicate themselves. Honestly, though, there's a serious fucking problem when a subculture like incels, which is basically a mix of John Hughes and Hitler, can become a thing. The people in communities like that are emotionally stunted. They're about as mature as 12 year olds.
