Why are Lifetime movies so bad?

As someone who has acted in a Lifetime movie I can say that it really comes down the writing.

Did I know it was bad? Yes.

Was I proud of the finished product? Not necessarily, but that’s part of what it means to be an actor. Your job is to deliver the best performance you can with the material and direction provided.

As actors we need work, and we need to pay the bills just like everybody else. Even if something is of lower production value it is not always the fault of the creatives involved. Usually it’s the fault of the executives attached to the project (budget and time).

You don’t get to turn down roles for quality control unless you are a DiCaprio.

Lots of top tier performances you see on film & television are a product of well written, realistic sounding dialogue. Something I found to be lacking. The actors and director are actually quite talented people, but you can only do so much with mediocre writing.

My opinion of Lifetime movies? Some are better than others. It’s just creatives trying to make a living at their craft with limited resources.

In terms of the content on Lifetime, I personally find some of the stories to be educational for yout, but most of the “ripped from the headlines” ones to be exploitive.
