Why are so many Americans upset about Trump being POTUS? Isn't he the lesser of two evils coming out of that election?

I'll preface my question by saying that I'm not American, nor am I particularly political, but both Trump and Hillary seemed like really, really bad candidates.

With Hillary, you've got a candidate who is blatantly corrupt, was obviously in the pockets of several different corporations, and had spent 40 years establishing relationships with influential people. Who knows what kind of lasting damage she could have done?

At least with Trump as President, you've got an allegedly incompetent buffoon in office, who many people vocally dislike and disagree with; so whatever damage he manages to do while in office should be reversible - or at least less serious than anything Hillary could have done.

If you had to choose between four years of leadership under somebody with powerful relationships who was to be blatantly corrupt and power-hungry, and somebody who was a loud-mouthed tool who spent half of his time golfing instead of actually working, one would think you would choose the golfing Cheeto just to mitigate damage, no?
