Why are men still told to focus on money/career to be more attractive?

Tbf Marilyn, ignoring her personal issues and questionable taste in men, was playing a character when she spoke like this to appeal to her largely male fan base and male producers. She isn’t really giving dating advice or some philosophical outlook on like. She’s playing up a mythology for something like we could call a PR persona today.

The airhead persona that made men excited was someone she created to get ahead. It worked, and more power to her, but quoting her as some romantic authority is really questionable. The time she lived in didn’t have the level of feminism we have today for her to be an authentic woman in the world and get ahead in an acting career. She had to play to male expectations and feminine norms to survive in Hollywood.
