Why are most foods cheaper in the UK?

It is a lot of work.

But we shouldn't mock the guy, this sort of penny pinching and price watching is the only way that many poorer people can ensure financial security.

My nan used to shop like that, long before the internet. I think that her borderline obsession with spending as little as possible was the reason she retired earlier than the rest of my elderly relatives and was the only one who died owning a mortgage-free home.

Its not that easy anymore, but there's a lot to be said for spending as little as you can without compromising your quality of life too much. Its really the only way that most people who grow up poor can expect to gain financial security without outside assistance.
