Are online scams common with Switch games?

Hey OP, maybe in the future try /r/NintendoSwitchDeals/. They have a decent track-record for non-scam sales, and you can see through comments and upvotes which ones are worth your time.

To echo what other people are saying, yeah, almost 100% sure you got scammed. My 9-5 job involves checking phishing sites, and they often have names like bestdailynintendoswitchdeals.com or nintendo-acount-activation.download.com (not real sites, but you get the idea). If the name sounds even slightly generic or unofficial, check forums or google first. If you're only seeing bad or even a surprising lack of good results, don't trust them. Clicking through to the site to see for yourself is risky.

Also:

I clicked on the seller's email address and it kept opening tabs on my browser on my chromebook.

Definitely run a virus/malware scan if you haven't. Not all malware is immediately obvious.
