Yeah, I'm a little sentimental tonight.

But I do believe culture is more important than ethnicity.

My prime example would be international sports. European Football cup 1988 semi final between Netherland and Germany for example. Huge rivals, lot of hate from Dutch towards the Krauts because of being neighbour countries, lost a final to them back in '78, and ofcourse the war.

In 1988 the Dutch beat the Germans in the semi final on German soil. The also went on to beat the USSR in the final with a beauty of a strike from Marco van Basten.

But nobody in the Netherlands talk about that final against the USSR, they only remember beating the Krauts in Duitsland. And in that Dutch team were both black and white Dutch men, but they both sang the anthem with pride and they both hated the Krauts equally because they all were Dutch and proud. And they were all celebrated and still are.

It is all about culture.

But on the other hand:

Fastforward 20 years: Fighter Badr Hari, born in Amsterdam, decides to represent Marocco eventhough never living there and learning all his skills in the Netherlands. Choosing ethnicity.

I don't know what I'm saying, but it can work, it can.

But it won't work if they're some protected group you're not allowed to critizise.
