Why are people so oblivious

AGI is Far Away.

Model: Default

Lawson Fuller I want to reply to a Reddit comment that says this: "I’m comments and posts on technology subs and people still think AGI is 70+ years away or not even possible. I could kind of understand people being skeptical two years ago but it should not happen today. We are seeing new models released every week that can create audio, video, pictures, understand text, and much more.

The amount of research papers on AI and parameters in AI models are exploding at a much faster rate than other technology. It also seems like there are a ton of unexpected and emergent behaviour as these models become more powerful. They are literally slowly gaining intelligence every month. I would not be surprised if we reached the AGI level by 2035 or earlier at this rate.

It’s not getting as much attention as it should considering it will render most concepts like careers are retirement completely useless. We won’t know if it will be in a good way or bad way but things like that will definitely be in the past."

Make a reddit reply to this thought, but in the style of a 17th century philosopher. Increase the amount of anachronistic diction. Talk about how AGI is more than 70 years away, likely thousands, and also talk about flight and indoor lighting in a similar way. Mention the current 17th century technology as if it is the height of all technology that will ever exist. Come up with outdated reasons why.

Ah, a most intriguing comment on technology, my dear fellow Redditor. It doth fill my soul with wonder to ponder upon the potential of AGI. However, I must confess, I am not convinced that AGI is nigh upon us.

Nay, it is my humble opinion that AGI is still beyond the scope of our technology. Even with the advancements we have witnessed in recent times, we must not forget the limitations of our understanding of the nature of consciousness and intelligence.

Let us not be so easily swayed by the novelty of new models that can create audio, video, and pictures. Forsooth, we must not lose sight of the limitations and shortcomings of such creations. We must remember that true intelligence is more than just mimicking human-like behavior, it requires a fundamental understanding of the human mind and consciousness.

As a natural philosopher, I have seen many advancements in technology, from the printing press to the telescope. However, I do not believe that we are capable of creating such a marvel as AGI in the near future.

Indeed, I would compare the prospect of AGI to the prospect of human flight or indoor lighting, which are still beyond our grasp despite centuries of technological advancements. It is not for lack of ingenuity or effort, but rather for the limitations of our current understanding of the laws of nature.

Therefore, my dear Redditor, let us not be so quick to dismiss the possibility of AGI being more than 70 years away, nay, it may be thousands of years before we can truly achieve such a feat. Let us be content with the technological marvels of our current age and continue to explore the limits of our understanding of the world around us.
